Living Room Sets: Mix and Match

pic1
Living Room Sets: Mix & Match
The living room or family room is known to be the family’s favorite room to chat together and spend some quality time.  This room should combine a mix of warmth and comfort, in order to enable a family to be inclined to gather in this space. Style, comfort and quality all matter to pull off this setting.  In order to achieve this mood, one must select the appropriate pieces to blend together. Blending furniture pieces in a living room does not necessarily imply that they must be from the same collection. On the contrary, a good living room design is a mix of cohesive pieces that blend in color, style and texture. In fact, one might say that even some opposites work well together to create an eclectic mix.
Sofa:
The Azlyn sofa features a vintage casual style, and infuses a mixed media look in such an elegant manner. In this mixture, we have exposed feet in a wood finish, a nailhead trim and gorgeous tufted upholstery. The curvaceous rolled arms provide added character to the sofa. Despite the elegance of the piece, the warm earthy tones create an inviting atmosphere.

Chair(s):
The Kannerdy chair features elegant refinement and rugged good looks that blend beautifully with the selected sofa. The dramatic style of the turned feet and the Charles of London arms enhance the English style with this pairing. In addition, the muted neutral tones harmonize well together and create an opportunity to add little pops of color in the room. Lastly, depending on the dimensions of your room, for an optimal design, allow for two chairs facing the sofa.

Ottoman:
Finally, the Hindell Park ottoman features a vintage casual style with button tufting detail.  The soft upholstery brightens any room with its colorful and soothing pattern. You’ll enjoy the comfortable atmosphere set by this ottoman once you have your feet up!
Although these pieces are very different and unique in their own way, some key elements such as the similarities with the feet, the muted natural tones and elegant refinement make them mesh well together.

How To Add Decorative Accent To Your Living Room

By Beds For Less

There is a list of a few questions you must ask yourself when looking to add decorative accents to your living room. Don’t worry, no need to ask a designer to do it. Here are 5 simple questions you might ask yourself before adding decorations to your living room:
  1. Which color scheme are you using in your living room?
  2. What kind of ambiance do you want to make?
  3. Is there a common theme in your living room (florals, vintage, monochrome)? Do you want to keep this theme or change it?
  4. Where do you want to add decorations?
  5. Why do you want to add decorations?

Based on these questions, you should be able to make a good choice.

Now, little tips and advice to help you make a better choice:
  • First of all, if you have kids, it is not recommended to choose fragile decorations like a glass vase or pottery for places they can reach. Adding some decorative candles and/or printed pillows can be a good alternative.
  • Make sure that you find the same color at least in 3 items and not more than 5 colors (different tones don’t count as a different color if they are similar). Too many different colors in the same room make it hard to match them.
  • Don’t be afraid to use textures and patterns, but not more than 3 (you don’t want your living room decor to be inconsistent). Choosing a theme helps to choose the textures and patterns.
  • Keep in mind the size of the room while you’re shopping; too much decoration rarely gives good results and make the small rooms seem smaller.
  • Adding decorative pillows can make all the difference, you might try this before adding anything else.

By Beds For Less

Oktoberfest is right around the corner and guest what? You don’t need to go to Germany or speak German to celebrate! Whether you are a beer drinker, a sauerkraut lover or a sausage eater, this fest is a great opportunity to gather with friends or simply to meet new people.

Originally held in Munich, Germany as it is a Bavarian festival, Oktoberfest has become one of the world’s largest folk festivals, where everybody is welcome to join and celebrate. But what if you plan to have yours at home? It’s not that complicated! Here are a few things you should do to host a great one.

To create the authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere, you do not need to set up a tent in your garden, decorate your place like a Bavarian traditional house or wear traditional outfits. Along with beer, serve sausages, pretzels, and sauerkraut…Oktoberfest is well known by food lovers, since they enjoy eating great traditional German food.

Ideally, put some traditional music to set the mood; make some space in your home, as some people love singing and dancing while drinking.

Now you are ready to host an Oktoberfest at home. Time to celebrate and bring German tradition to your home for hours or the day!

WHY SHOULD YOU USE AN AREA RUG? BECAUSE...

By Beds For Less

It’s amazing how much an area rug can transform a room. If you’re looking to roll out big style—for a modest outlay of cash—opting for an area rug is a good way to go. When shopping for the right area rug, choose one that’s roughly the same shape as the accompanying furniture. Cluster the furniture around it or on top of it, place a table, desk or bed at its center—and you’re good to go!
Why are area rugs so great? Because area rugs…

Tie together a room’s color scheme. An area rug works as well, if not better, than art or throw pillows to unify your color schemes.

Anchor furniture. Area rugs make a room look connected and cohesive. In living rooms and family rooms, use an area rug that’s big enough to fit under the front legs of your furniture. If it’s too small to do that, center the rug under your coffee table.

Are inexpensive “artwork.” Bringing color and graphical elements into a room, area rugs help create a dynamic gathering place. Certain area rugs, such as handwoven style rugs, can also be hung on a large wall, at a fraction of the price of large-scale artwork.

Add warm, comfort and safety. Especially if you have solid-surface floors, such as hardwood, concrete or tile, you can appreciate the cushy relief area rugs bring to your space.

Work everywhere. Be it in the living room, bedroom or dining room, area rugs feel right at home. As a rule of thumb; use an area rug under the largest piece, or group of furniture, in a room to anchor the space.

Absorb sound. Especially when accompanied by an ample rug pad, area rugs do a wonderful job of buffering noise.

Move with you. Wall-to-wall carpeting might be there to stay, but area rugs are all yours to take with you should you relocate.

While machine-made rugs are the most common today, there are plenty of handwoven options that can include everything from precious oriental rugs to affordable jute styles.

A bit about area rug materials:

Synthetic rugs are mostly made from petroleum products. They’re popular for their colorful designs, durability and low price.

Wool rugs offer a step up with their remarkably soft, plush feel. Most are hand-tufted, with loops of yarn punched into a cloth, backed with latex and then sheared to produce a cut-pile surface. It’s completely normal for wool area rugs to shed a little when they’re brand new.

Jute rugs are another natural fiber area rug. These are usually handwoven. Though associated with more relaxed/casual settings, they’re a designer favorite in many interiors today because they add texture, lie flat and are easy to maintain.

Tips for keeping your area rug as good as new:

  • Purchase a rug pad to reduce movement on the floor and prevent rug wear.
  • Vacuum regularly to reduce dirt accumulation.
  • Blot spills immediately. Avoid saturation with water.
  • Rotate occasionally to reduce the effects of traffic and sunlight.

Make A Small Living Room Seems Bigger

by Beds for Less Furniture Express

If you want to make a room seems bigger, here are 4 simple tips for you:

1- Optimization, optimization and… optimization!
Using multifunctional furniture gives you the possibility to keep magazines, decorative pillows, seasonal accent decor and other things that belong in the living room.

2- Use mirrors!

The secret is that mirrors reflect light and make the room seem bigger because every corner is visible. The most effective way to make this magic trick work is to use mirrors that run from the floor to the ceiling!

3- Let the light in!
A dark room always seems smaller than it really is, no matter the size! That’s why it’s even more important to have as much light as we can in a small room. To do so, don’t hide any windows with big furniture or curtains that prevent the light from getting in.

4- Think tiny and vertical!
Large furniture often takes too much place in a room and constrains us to have less furniture. A good way to fill a small room with more than one or two furniture pieces is to use tiny and vertical ones!
